Drowsy Water Guest Ranch

This past August we had an outstanding vacation at a guest ranch in Colorado, the Drowsy Water Ranch. This was the best vacation we have ever been on as a family and we are going to return.

Our family is typically an outdoor bound family seeking fun new adventures. Despite a few of us being skeptical and really wondering if a dude ranch experience was for us, we had a wonderful time. We had the opportunity to explore the Colorado mountains aboard our gallant western mounts (big horses) and return to hearty meals and exciting evening entertainment every night.

The Drowsy Water staff was excellent especially the kids counselors! Our kids were entertained from the time they woke up till way past their bedtimes. While my wife and I had plenty of time to spend with the kids at meal times, a few rides, rafting and the evening activities we were happy to spend time riding without our kids from time to time and not worry about them. Within one day our kids were running around the ranch like they owned the place with their new friends from all over, Colorado to England.

So our major skepticism revolved around riding horses. Neither my wife or I had ridden horses since we were kids so we were nervous... we were going to fall off?... get saddle sores?... be less experienced than everyone else? Nothing to be scared about. After being interviewed by one of the owners when we arrived, a horse was then matched to our riding ability, size and nervousness (in my case). We opted for lessons and a riding clinic and our fears were put to ease! We had group and individual attention/lessons the first day mixed with a few short rides and were beginning to ride like real cowfolks. By the end of the second full day we were loping through the high country with our kids. What a feeling! We highly recommend one of the all day rides either with your kids or without. Thanks to our horses too... Gus, Flicker, Shmoo and Lady.

We highly recommend this vacation destination for all families looking for something new and fun. Where else can you vacation with your family and be treated by the owners like part of their family? The Fosha family has an excellent ranch and do a great job!
