Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. You enter the Park by taking a tram ride up to the mountain where all of the activities are located. From the tram, you have amazing views of Glenwood Springs, the Colorado River, and the surrounding mountain tops. You actually travel above the trees! From here, you are dropped off at the top in the gift shop and café. There is a myriad of activities to enjoy once you arrive. From a zip line to horseback riding to a fossil dig and a maze, there is an activity for every member of the family not to mention the famous cavern tours.

Our cavern tour began at 11:30 am with a lovely guide named Kathy. We were thrust into another world upon entering as we were guided through and led to 5 miles below the mountain. We saw stalactites and stalagmites as well as abundant other cavern features such as flowstone with the culmination of the tour in the King’s Row cavern. Occasional drops of water would fall on us as we experienced the forces of nature at work. Sprinkled with the history of the caves as well as its current setting, you are guaranteed to learn something you didn’t know and walk away with an appreciation of earth’s magnificence.

A jacket is required as the temperature inside the caves is 52 degrees year round (the average temperature in Glenwood Springs). I carried my baby throughout the whole 80 minute tour as strollers are not allowed. Other restrictions include inaccessibility to the caverns with wheelchairs as a lot of walking and stairs is required. Further tours of the caves are available with reservations required.

Our family had a great time learning about nature and experiencing geology at its best. I would recommend to be prepared for any kind of weather as being on a mountain 7100 feet above sea level can be unpredictable at best. Dress in layers, wear comfortable walking shoes, and be prepared to have fun!

The park is open most of the year with closures in the winter, so call ahead if you are going then. Some attractions are seasonal (such as the horseback riding) and some attractions have height restrictions (such as the zip line).
