High School Musical: The ice tour

WOW. Disney does it AGAIN!!! High School Musical on ice tour was fabulous.

What a blast we had this evening. I took my daughter (9) and her friend (9) to the Denver performance at the Coliseum. How do I know they enjoyed it? Silence during the performance and mouths moving at triple the normal speed all the way home. They couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the skating, the music, the videos, the fireworks...

"Mom, be sure and tell them (she knew I was writing my review) about the fireworks," she said as she put her head down on the pillow, a very happy little girl look on her face. [insert a sleepy, happy smiley here...]

...the dancing, the characters, the set, the lights, the EVERYTHING.

As the mom, I was impressed at how Disney wove the evening together. Beginning with a special video, sing-along and dance-along, from High School Musical 3. The cast did a great job of getting the audience excited and involved. The rest of the first half was the basics of High School Musical (the first) with a short intermission followed by HSM 2. Some of my daughter’s favorite songs were highlighted in each act (you know, the ones she sings while doing homework) with fabulous skating by the entire cast. My personal favorite moment in the show was during the first act when basketballs were dropped to the ice, simultaneously, to maybe a dozen cast members. What a surprise. Soon, I said to my daughter:

“Wow, they are dribbling on ice.”
“I know, mom. They practice that a lot.”

I liked how the show was paced with action-packed dance, well SKATE, numbers will the full cast, to single skates by several characters. The first half holding the bulk of the performance but the second half finishing more quickly for young and tired attention spans.
This was such a worthwhile evening and my daughter will not soon forget it. Disney really has a special way at capturing the attention of children and adults through all their senses. Go Wildcats!!

What I learned: No, this is not news to me but it’s always worth remembering: you simply can’t go wrong with Disney for family entertainment.
About Denver Coliseum: After a snow, a warm day and then cold temperatures, the parking lot was filled with a variety of large ponds with ice around them…so just be careful when parking and walking to the up to the front.
Despite these possible pitfalls, the arena was clean and small enough to have a good seat almost anywhere in the house. It also has one of the easiest exit plans for their parking lot. I don’t know how, but I hardly stopped on my way out through the row of parking shacks, down the road and on to I-70. A very nice end to a great evening!

My family went to see Disney's highly anticipated High School Musical on Ice show at the Denver Colisum. We had great seats facing the stage, but far enough away that my 4 year old didn't realize it wasn't the real Troy and Gabriella skating! It started off showing clips of HSM 3 which got the kids excited. They had all the great songs from HSM 1 in the first half, and HSM 2 songs for the second half of the show. It was enjoyable for the entire family (I being a fan of HSM 1, 2 and 3 - how about HSM 4 -Freshman year!), but I think it was best suited for the true HSM lovers in the 4-9 age group who knew every song and dance.

We also had a fabulous evening at High School Musical: The Ice Tour last night! My almost four year old daughter was thrilled with everything she saw, and literally spent the entire evening dancing! The show wasn't too long (I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was only 9:30 when we walked out...not too bad for a school night!) and kept her attention the ENTIRE time...not an easy feat! It is totally true that the coliseum doesn't have a bad seat in it, and the layout for bathrooms, parking, and exits is fantastic and easy.

You can't go wrong with a Disney show, and High School Musical: the Ice Tour is no exception! Get your head in the game, and get to the show! :D

I took my husband and four kids, ranging in age from 10, 9, 6, and 3 to see High School Musical: The Ice Tour and I must say, that for the most part it was very entertaining. The dance moves were fun and I couldn't help thinking how hard it must have been for the skaters to perform them on the ice. And I still don't know how one performs on skates while catching a basketball in mid air. However, I was expecting a bit more Disney pizzaz. The skating was a bit mediocre and there were not a lot of thrills. The skaters lip synced which was a little disappointing but understandable considering the circumstances. I do think the show was appropriate for the entire family and its always fun to go and belt out all those old favorite High School Musical 1 and 2 songs.

It's unanimous, Disney's High School Musical: The Ice Tour was Fab-U-Lous! We had a great night. To start it off we blasted the soundtrack to HSM2 in the car all the way to the Denver Coliseum. I had two 10 year-old girls and two 6-year old boys along with me so by the time we arrived, we had our heads in the game!

The show began with clips from the movies as a way to familiaize everyone with the characters...but there was no need. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in the areana who did not know every word to every song! The first half of the 2 hour show featured the first High School Musical songs and the second half featured High School Musical 2. There was singing, dancing and basketball dribbling, all while ice skating, and they didn't miss a beat.

We had amazing seats and "Troy" even made it up to our section to high-five the kids, which added an extra thrill to the night. The girls loved the music and the boys loved the cool fireworks that rained down on the ice. The show did not disappoint. It was a terrrific family event!!

There's not much more I can add about High School Musical than what's already been said; however, I brought all 5 of my kiddos (ranging in age from 1 to 12 and both boys and girls) and even the little guy seemed to enjoy himself. Usually it's difficult to get him to cooperate for anything that long (I mean, gosh, he's 1 and I shouldn't expect so much... :) but he just sat and stared at everything that was going on. He didn't catch most of the cool effects that the rest of us enjoyed but the loud music and performers that were staged everywhere from the floor to the high scaffolding kept him enthralled. Because of the distance we had to travel home, we decided to sneak out early but really felt that up to that point the show was great. My husband, not a musical fan, left saying that if Disney could do such a great job with this on ice that he needed to see the movie. WOW! My only hope is that Disney will start putting some "chick flicks" on ice so he'll want to see those as well...

Both times I've been to the arena it's been clean and well-maintained. The vendors really cracked us up this time, promoting the "singing programs" by actually singing that they were for sale. One guy actually had a pretty decent voice and a fabulous sense of humor. Oh, I also need to point out that the bathroom was very clean and there was plenty of TP - something you can always be thankful for!

Next time something fun blows into town you should give it a try! I was expecting much less and left pleasantly surprised.
