Upon entering the Stroke of Genius Pottery Studio in Fruita, Colorado, one is instantly taken with the lively wall colors and array of painting desks. I arrived with my three kids (almost 5, 3, and 8 months old) on a lazy, rainy Wednesday afternoon ready to paint. The walls were aligned with dozens of pottery my kids could choose from to paint (from turtles, dinosaurs, fairies, plates, cups, boxes, etc) and every different color one could imagine. Anne, the lovely owner, helped my girls choose a horse to color and assisted them in picking out the paints. I didn’t know a horse could be so many different colors! Then, my girls sat and painted (all the paints are non-toxic and washable) until they were satisfied with their creations. The paint dried and we were done. Next, Anne will glaze the horses and put them in her kiln to seal the colors in. In a week, we will return to pick up our shiny creations! For those who are just traveling through, Stroke of Genius offers a shipping option.
One added bonus to our experience was the extra discount we received on our pottery! Stroke of Genius offers various discounts on different days of the week such as family days on Sundays where the studio fees are reduced to Kid’s Day on Wednesdays where school age kids receive a 15% discount. They publish a monthly calendar of events that lists all the special events, deals, and discounts for that particular month. In conclusion, with all the discounts offered, your child should walk out with a distinct piece of art all their own at a price reasonable to the busy parent’s budget.
Located at 455 Kokopelli Blvd in Fruita, Stroke of Genius is easily accessible right off I-70 exit to Fruita. Store hours are: Tues – Thurs 11am to 7pm, Fri 11am to 8pm, Sat 11am to 9pm, Sun 12 noon to 5pm and closed on Mondays.
