My family and I headed out early on Saturday to KidSpree. We parked at the Aurora Town Center and took the free air-conditioned shuttle bus to the park for the festivities. On the ride over, we realized that my husband hadn't put sunscreen on. Fortunately for us, the organizers thought of everything and there was free sunscreen (courtesy of Children's Hospital) at the information tent as we headed in to the park. Whew! Crisis averted.
Now any event in late July is likely to be hot and it was sweltering! However, there were lots of fun craft activities for the kids in large tents with big evaporative coolers running to keep things cool. Very nice and much appreciated by this momma! And there was also an area to get sprayed with water and cool off.
The kids donned some paint smocks and helped paint some pint-sized buildings made out of cardboard in Tot Town. My 2 year old son had an absolute blast and ended up with paint everywhere, despite the provided smock. Not to worry, a kind volunteer washed/dried his hands and assured me that the paint would wash off with soap and water. Luckily, my kids are washable!
Both my boys went and explored the life-size Kandy Lane board game and then we headed off to the tent to make Party Hats; fun hats made out of grocery bags covered with fabric and LOTs of adornments. Both boys ended up with some hilarious hats complete with feather trim and playing cards.
My boys love inflatables so we headed over to that area next. My 9 year old loved the giant 18 foot inflatable slide and my little one loved the inflatable shaped like a circus train. Very fun area and the lines actually went pretty quickly.
After several hours, the entire family was exhausted so we started making our way to meet the shuttle bus for the ride back to our car. On our way out, we met Connie the Cow; one of the mascots from the Arapahoe County Fair. My toddler thought that was hilarious! And we got more free balloons as the first one my little one got escaped into the stratosphere.
My first experience at KidSpree was a lot of fun despite the summer heat and I'm sure my family will go again next year. There were also entertainment stages with kid friendly music and performers and a food court area where we got sno-cones to cool off. Both my boys ended up with their bags full of lots of goodies from coloring sheets and trading cards to beads and movie posters.
